Meet Lumy Algarin
Founder & Lead Instructor
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Lumy Algarin brings her culture, passion for dance, and years of experience to every class at La Luz Dance Co. Specializing in New York Style Salsa (On2), she has trained with dancers across the U.S. and developed a teaching style centered on strong technique, musicality, connection, and confidence.
But La Luz was created to be more than a place to learn steps. Lumy’s vision is to build a community where dancers of every level feel welcomed, challenged, supported, and at home on the dance floor.

MEET THE LA LUZ DANCE FAMILY
Janayra teaches Salsa alongside Lumy and leads La Luz’s Modern Bachata classes. Beyond the dance floor, she brings La Luz Dance to life behind the scenes through its marketing, website, digital presence, and community outreach.
Hector teaches Salsa alongside Lumy and brings his love of Latin dance to La Luz through Cumbia and Modern Bachata. He also partners with Janayra for Modern Bachata, creating classes focused on connection, technique, and having fun on the dance floor.
A longtime instructor and close member of the La Luz family, Clara brings years of experience teaching Salsa On1. She is the founder of her independent dance company, Salsa4Life, and teaches out of the La Luz Dance studio while also hosting Salsa Wednesdays at Komana Brewing Company in Cary.
Yaya brings versatility and expression to La Luz through Kizomba and Floorwork. Outside of the studio, she is also the founder of Optionnaire Learning, an independent learning platform, where she continues her passion for education and growth.
